News
& Information for .US Domain Buyers, Sellers & Website Developers
Welcome
to American Domain Names (ADN) - a new
source of news and information for those who buy, sell,
develop or invest in .US domain names. .US is the United States of America's
official Top Level Domain (TLD - also known
as the "domain
extension"). .US domains
are administered by Registry
Services, LLC on behalf of the U.S. Department
of Commerce and they are offered through hundreds of
domain registrars around the world. This site is not
affiliated with the registry operator or any registrar.
Our mission is to bring more recognition to our
country's TLD - one that we have buying and
building on ever since .US was opened to all American
citizens (and anyone who does business in America) on April
24, 2002. Prior to that, .US, officially created on Feb.
15, 1985, was limited to use by the government, schools and some
other special entities.
|
That
17-year lag between its creation and when we could all use it kept
.US from growing as fast as it could have when the Internet started
exploding. On the other hand, those restrictions also left open a
lot of excellent, affordable Internet real estate you can
take advantage of today.
The most widely used
TLDs in the world are extensions like .COM, .NET,
.ORG and national country code TLDs (every
country has one), like America's .US,
The United Kingdom's .UK and Germany's .DE, to
name just a few. While .Com holds, by far, the largest market
share, the best .com domains were all taken many years ago
and are either prohibitively expensive for most people or not for sale
at any price today. They are valuable assets that are worth
the prices they command and we love them too. However,
if you really want a specific word or term that defines what you do, or a short
acronym to simplify a long brand name (such as we do with ADN.US
for American Domain Names) - and have a budget you need
to adhere to - you have to consider your options. We have
long viewed .US as the best option for Americans and
those who do business in America.
|
Thankfully,
it is
still possible to get a great .US domain for an affordable
price. That may not be the case much longer though. Millions
of new businesses go online every year and each one of them is
searching for a memorable domain name
to build their Internet presence on. Over 360 million domain
names have already been taken worldwide, making it more
difficult to acquire a meaningful domain name. That's why millions of dollars worth
of currently registered domain names are being bought and sold every week
(see the latest domain sales report at Domain
Name Journal to find out what hundreds of
different domain names have sold for in recent weeks). |
Today,
hundreds of thousands of American small businesses,
organizations and individual citizens are using .US. More than
1.7 million .US domains have been registered and many major
international corporations are using .US too. The list
includes the
dominant force in video conferencing, Zoom.us,
two of the world's largest
cryptocurrency exchanges, Binance.us
and FTX.us,
America's fastest growing supermarket chain (with over 2,000
stores) Aldi.us,
Ollies.us
(America's biggest chain of closeout bargain stores with
nearly 400 stores across the U.S), fashion
king CalvinKlein.us, MasterCard.us,
Shell.us,
Bosch.us, world famous ice cream maker
|
|
HaagenDazs.us,
CBRE.us
(the huge real estate services provider
with 200 offices across America), ClubMed.us,
AirFrance.us,
Hitachi.us,
AndersonCompanies.us,
Osram.us and many more.
Obviously, you will be in good company when you go
online with America's internet address! |
While
you are here we invite to use the menu in the red
